In Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth…”, I have found all I need to nurture my soul. God’s ability to make something amazing out of emptiness is just proof of who He is.
I may not understand how He created the heavens and the earth or what purpose lays behind this creation, but I do know that when He created me He had a plan. I may not fully comprehend His plan, but my responsibility doesn’t lie on knowing what He’s up to, but in always being willing to listen to when He whispers into my heart and give me instruction to take a step or two. Yet, it wasn’t till my mid-30s that my heart was willing to listen for His voice. When I learned to listen to God’s voice, I began to accept the truth of who He is, why He is and where I stand in all of what He has done.
The fascinating way nature functions, how leaves turn color in the change of seasons. The way sea creatures survive in the depths of the seas and how birds glide elegantly in the sky is enough for me to never question God’s ability in making things happen in my life. Only a supernatural power can be behind this magnificent existence. Our sole existence can be understood in the simplest way; we were created for his pleasure and He has a plan for each and one of us.
“For by Him were all things created that are in heaven and
that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities or powers:
he created all things and for Him.”
From the very beginning, all God did was good. There was not a single thread of imperfection for it was all created by a perfect God. Evil had no existence or place in His perfection, in all of this, there was peace and harmony. Everything went together like a knitted quilt. The sun complimented the moon; the star decorated the night sky, the earth gave birth to all the beauty seen in nature. As if an artist had painted a portrait for the liking and enjoyment of mankind, he decorated the afternoon skies. There was no room for chaos just enough room for the glory of God to shine through.
His greatest masterpiece was mankind. We were brought to life, to honor Him through what we say, our actions and our thoughts. To glorify God, is to recognize His magnificence and see its worth above anything and everything. We were created to glorify him through heartfelt gratitude and faith, not because we see but because we know and feel His presence in all we do, say and think. It is through a relationship with Him that He is glorified. And this realtionship links our soul to the Holy Spirit. We were not created as robots to roam the earth; we have been given the will to worship and love Him freely. We come closer to Him through prayer and His Word. The one thing He left for us never to forget who He is and why He is, is the Gospel. And through it we can gain knowledge of our creator. Through the gospel, we find our purpose and understand his standards in a world like ours, in the gospel we gain the ability to live a life of contentment knowing that He walks with us through our trials and tribulations.
We were created to enjoy God forever and delight in knowing Him.
tells us, “In your God’s presence there is the fullness of joy, in Your God’s right hand are pleasures for evermore.”
Just recently I was speaking to a friend of mine and as we spoke he mentioned that if I wanted to know him better I should read his horoscope, and then I would understand why he is the way he is. When he said this, I felt a bit sad, because I realized how the secular world has created many obstacles to distract the world of who God really is. The world today looks towards other means to see what their future holds, but His word says,
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and hope.
We go in search of what we want and forget that it is our needs that will truly bring us joy.
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”
Our greatest problem is that we look not in the right place for guidance, protection, and wisdom. Our greatest fault is believing that we can find peace of mind in the things the world offers. It is only through God that we can come to a complete understanding of even the most difficult things in our lives.
We need to come back to the true source of who we are. We need to trust that God does everything in His timing, perfect fitting for the season we’re in. We need to understand that it is through God that we are complete, without Him we are absent of the plan He has set forth for us.
My Heavenly Father,
I pray that because we were created to glorify you, we could sooner then later fully comprehend that you are our true and only source of joy and peace of mind, that we always look towards you for guidance and in that guidance we walk assured because it was your whispering voice that set motion to our journey. That we are reminded that we are a distinctive instrument, one of light in the shadow of darkness and salt in an unseasoned world. And that through this recognition we would become justified and complete through You. Amen
So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
